But apparently not a high level of discretion when it comes to games produced and provided for their platform, lol. I can see them being arrogant if they had high standards they wanted to enforce considering available content, however based on current content that is not the case with this system, lol.

Upsetting to read this. I am not a game developer, nor do I ever want to be. In fact, I am a casual gamer and really looked forward to WiiWare, as there are some clever "penny arcade" games that really provide the kind of entertainment I enjoy when de-stressing from work and such.

This article disappoints me, and many others, and I can say I am WiiWare target audience. I hope they reconsider their arrogant ignorance.</description>

		<description>Don't feel bad... Our company hasn't even received a reply to our application (filed twice).   We have secure facilities, 8-figure (USD) funding, and experienced employees.   Considering Nintendo can refuse your finished product, it's pretty sad they're using "open development" as wii marketingware.  All their doing is pissing off developers, good and bad, that'll just go somewhere else with a bad taste in their mouth for Nintendo.  To add insult, there's the load of utter crap on disc (London Taxi anyone?  How did they get Nintendo approved when they can't even get it right doing a complete rip?  Check our the developers long list of crapware.)

Companies (particularly Japanese game companies) seem to have this problem that when they're successful their egos get in the way, then they get somehow humbled, become reasonable, and the whole thing starts again.   Anyone remember when Sony told all but the largest PS1 developers that they didn't want them for the PS2 then had protests outside their offices because the PS2 software was so bad?   How about when Sega scrapped the E&#38;S designed Dreamcast because the parts weren't "Japanese enough" and replaced parts until it was almost impossible to program (Hitachi didn't make a CPU fast enough so they just added two - genius!)?   Remember "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within"?  Square ended up loosing a big chunk of their company because of their refusal to listen to experts they hired from Hollywood to set up their animation studio.

Another big company I worked for tried to get a license for the Super Mario Brothers theme (to use for something totally non-game related) and they wouldn't even talk to us (the receptionist read us some standard "we don't talk to anyone about licensing" legal script)  US copyright laws allowed us to use the song anyway and pay almost nothing ($0.091).

From my experience, US and European game and media companies seem much more willing to at least talk to indies. (Well, except for Apple and their iPhone - same story as WiiWare it looks like.)</description>

		<description>Do you have a secure private network?  From reading the rejection letter, it sounds like they didn't want any important Nintendo dev files on an unestablished company's system for security reasons (leaks, etc.).  Did you have to submit your network setup to them as part of the application?</description>

WiiWare on paper seemed to be exactly what the Wii needed which was to draw much needed developers away from XBLA and PSN to expand their library of games. High hardware sales haven't equated to high software sales for non-first party titles. So Nintendo tries to invite small development companies to join them under the WiiWare banner in an effort to bring more variety of games to the Wii.
There's only one snag, Nintendo's definition of a "small" dev company is different from the common folk. To Nintendo a small developer consists of 20-50 employees with game dev budgets of only about $2.5 million (US) or so.
In any case... good luck and I look forward to seeing your endeavours come to fruition.</description>
